The SMF Emergency Department is a single-stop facility with a full spectrum of services. We were one of the first hospitals in this country to recognize the need for a round-the-clock centre for managing emergencies. The department provides treatment for a wide range of conditions - traffic accidents, burns, poisonings, acute medical emergencies like heart attacks and strokes. It handles adults and children, on a "24/7" basis. About 30% of all admissions to the hospital come through the Emergency Department. The department receives close to 20,000 patients a year.

In a community hospital it may often be difficult to establish pediatric priorities. The first need is for the correct questions to be asked and this requires imagination, thoughtfulness and courage in addition to personal experience gained in the practice of pediatrics. The answers to the questions however cannot be complete and will need to be reviewed constantly and critically in the light of results achieved and the needs and ever-changing conditions of the community.

The Department of Ophthalmology at SMF is a comprehensive service geared to meet the community's eye care needs by providing high quality eye care at an affordable cost. The eye department treats patients with general eye problems or those desiring a specific evaluation for cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy or macular degeneration. The day care in-patient wards provide support for the short stay eye surgeries performed for cataract, glaucoma, lacrimal sac etc.

The Department of ENT Surgery (Oto-rhino-laryngology) is staffed by four consultants and has a postgraduate training programme in ENT approved by the National Board of Examinations,New Delhi.

The Department of Dentistry and Maxillo - facial surgery deals with diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of teeth, mouth & jaws. The department is well equipped and boasts of highly qualified consultants in all specialties of dentistry

The Department of Orthopedics is a round the clock service that provides all aspects of modern orthopedic care. All trauma cases are accepted 24 hours a day, backed by continuous, in-house coverage by qualified registrars and consultants.About 7000 out-patients and 700 in-patients are handled each year. The department performs more than 600 operations a year, covering all aspects of modern orthopedic surgery.
